I am always looking for more restaurants! We would love to perform at your restaurant, scheduled around your needs, your goals, and your clientelle. All we need is a 3-course meal (salad, entree and dessert), a room for performance, a performance night, and a "Green Room" for the actors and Act4Murder staff during the production. It really couldn't be simpler!

I have compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions below. If your questions are not answered here, please call or email me, and I'll be happy to answer them for you.

What is this?

This is murder mystery for dinner theater. I provide the comedic murder mystery, you provide the restaurant and a 3-course meal (salad, entree and dessert). Back to FAQ's

How could this benefit my restaurant?

Offering special events to your clientelle is a great way to increase your business, and murder mystery is a very special event! We've found that the restaurants we perform in on a regular basis have increased their business, not only on murder mystery nights, but every night, and we can do the same for you! Back to FAQ's

How many people can you perform for?

The ideal number varies based on a number of factors. We will perform for as few as 14, and have performed for as many as 220. Back to FAQ's

Where would you be willing to perform?

We have performed in Ft. Walton Beach, Shalimar, Okaloosa Island, Niceville, DeFuniak Springs, Pensacola, Destin, Sandestin, Grayton Beach, Miramar Beach, Panama City Beach, Tallahassee, and Montgomery, Alabama. We can perform anyplace and are willing to travel! Back to FAQ's

Tell me about the room you need for performance.

The room can be a square or rectangular shaped room. "L" shaped rooms can be used as long as all the guests are seated in one part of the "L," not both. Back to FAQ's

Do you need a stage?

No. The performers work around the tables in the dining room. Some shows require a space at one end of the room to set up special needs for the show, or for any dancing that might be in the show, but no stage is necessary. Back to FAQ's

What kind of meal would I serve?

You would serve a salad, an entree and a dessert. Some restaurants include 4 courses - soup as the first course. The restaurants I've worked with usually offer 3 choices for the entree. You need to keep your kitchen in mind when deciding on the meals. In general, a chicken, fish and beef dish are offered. I can help you with this if you need guidance. Back to FAQ's

This sounds complicated, how will my staff know what to do?

It isn't complicated! I provide a detailed schedule to you either before or on the performance night, and will explain everything to the staff as far as when each course is served, when the actors are performing, when orders can be taken, when drinks can be refilled, etc., etc. Back to FAQ's

What in the heck is a Green Room?

A Green Room is a room the actors and Act4Murder staff use during the performance to wait between scenes, rehearse lines, and store show props. The room can be an office, another dining area, a dressing room, or a well-ventilated utility or storage room. We obviously prefer a big, roomy area with chairs and tables, but we just aren't all that picky. Back to FAQ's

Can I keep the restaurant open during a performance?

Yes and No. Yes if you have more then one dining area and the areas are physically separated in some way. Otherwise, no. The restaurant would need to be closed to walk-in's (unless you can fit them into the murder mystery) on the night of the performance. Back to FAQ's

Tell me about the costs.

You, the restaurant owner, will determine the cost of the 3-course meal including tax and tip. Once this is decided, the cost of the mystery will be determined, on a per person basis, and added to your per person cost to come up with the total. You pay nothing to Act4Murder until after the event, and again, it is on a per person basis. Back to FAQ's

How is the show selected?

I have nineteen shows to choose from at this time. I will recommend a show to you based on other productions I have going on in the area, cast availability, and the time of year. I will also work with you to plan your next event and next show on performance night in order to get your desired date on our calendar. Back to FAQ's

What do you provide on performance night?

  • A comedic murder mystery, written by me, Paula Hilton, performed by professional character actors
  • Props, costumes, sound effects, and music, as required
  • Handouts containing written clues pertinent to the show, distributed throughout the evening

How would the show be promoted?

I take care of the bulk of the tasks needed to promote the show, at no cost to you.

  • I create flyers for the show and give them to you to distribute to your diners.
  • I put the show information on the website, including the ability to download and print the flyer.
  • I write a press release and send it to all local publications.
  • I add the show to Florida and local online event calendars.
  • I post a flyer at the Okaloosa County Visitor's Center.
  • I send an announcement to my 1000+ e-mail recipients.
  • I promote the show at Chamber of Commerce events.
  • I promote the show using today's internet - FACEBOOK, TWITTER, MYSPACE, etc.
  • I advertise in several local publications.
Additionally, if you have a marquee or other means of outdoor advertising, I ask that you add the show date for display. If you have an ad running in a paper on a regular basis, I ask that you add the show to that ad, as there is generally no charge to do so. I also ask that you instruct your staff to distribute the flyers, talk about the show, and understand how to take reservations over the phone for the event. Back to FAQ's

What do we provide to you?

  • A restaurant or performance area
  • Show promotion and reservations (ticket sales)
  • A separate area for actors during the performance ("Green Room")
  • Dinner, at no additional charge to Act4Murder, after the performance for the Act4Murder actors and staff
Back to FAQ's

How long will the evening last?

With a cash bar and a 3-course meal, the evening takes a little over 3 hours from start to finish. For my productions, there is generally a cash bar from 6:15 until 7:00, the show begins at 7:00, then we are finished between 9 and 9:30. Back to FAQ's

Are the plays suitable for all audiences?

The plays contain adult themes. Everything is presented in a comedic style, but in addition to murder, there is often adultery as a sub-plot, and plenty of sexual inuendo. NONE of my plays contain any drug or gang related material, nor is there any "bad" language included in the dialog, but in general, my plays are written for adult entertainment. Back to FAQ's

Do you have any special holiday shows?

Yes. I have two Valentine's Day shows, two Halloween shows and two Christmas shows. You must plan early to schedule these shows during the applicable holiday season, so call or email me quickly if you're interested in details about these two shows. Back to FAQ's

How and when do I pay?

The service agreement should be signed at least 30 days in advance of the performance date. On the night of the performance, the number of guests are counted and verified by your staff and an Act4Murder staff member, then payment is due within one week of the performance. I accept checks - no credit or debit cards. Back to FAQ's

I want Act4Murder to perform at my restaurant, what do I do?

Once you decide you do want Act4Murder to perform at your restaurant, we must get your first performance date on the Act4 calendar, select a show, and sign a service agreement. Next the meal selection must be made so I can make flyers and begin show promotion. And that's it! Back to FAQ's

I have other questions that need to be answered!
